The average cost per square foot to build a loft onto an existing house is about $90 to $110 per square foot. So, yes, it is possible to have plans for a loft-style house created to also feature a detached garage if the homeowner prefers the plans to be completed that way.

A loft-style house can have any type of roof. My house features a loft and I have a metal roof while my neighbor has a shingle roof and his house also features a loft.
Does loft-style work well with a rustic interior decor? Or is it more suited to a contemporary interior?
Loft style will work with a rustic interior décor for the simple fact that it was originally inspired by barns. My aunt built a gorgeous one-story house with high ceilings and a loft back in the 1980s. Her home was created to resemble a barn and it featured a rustic interior. I prefer a more contemporary look and feel to a home and can see how I could have changed her home to that type of décor pretty easily simply by changing the décor features.
